Yoga is a complex system of therapy formulated in the East and now famous universally. Even though yoga is a comprehensive system which includes different methods such as Karma Yoga, Raja Yoga, Hatha Yoga, Jnana Yoga, Bhakti Yoga, Kundalini Yoga and Mantra Yoga, the exercise part called yogasana is popular in the West. The yoga practitioners advocate several benefits such as physical, psychological and spiritual, for yoga and the testimonials of many of the followers were supporting their argument. And now the popularity of yoga enhances enormously as the scientific crowd is coming up with substantiating evidences for the benefits of yoga. However the most pronouncing benefit of yoga, which distinguishes it from the other similar therapies, will be its spiritual benefits.

The term spiritual benefits may be reviewed by different people with apparent dimensions. Usually spirituality refers to something related with religion or god. However in the perspective of yoga, spirituality is not only dealing with god but also with the soul or inner consciousness. Certainly yoga was related to religions as most of its preachers were sanyasis, the Hindu religious mendicants. However, yoga had a broader perspective and it was considered as the method to reach the inner consciousness. The Hindu believers say that yoga will trigger the energy circles of the body and help to reach the epitome of the energy.

Yoga is actually using the techniques to attain absolute peace. According to the principles, the focus of yoga is to attribute the complete freedom from the birth, death and concomitant evils of life. However, if you are not so religious enough though, the basic spiritual benefits such as improved concentration, regulated breath and clarity of mind will be certainly beneficial for the restoration of a sound life. The command over the breath will be an advantage to lose tension and help for better stress management. The improved concentration and clarity of mind assist to enhance your skills and increase the productivity.

The advanced spiritual benefits of yoga include the psychic control, mind control and thought control. The relaxation in the thoughts will help you gain the knowledge. Along with improvement, the flexibility of the attitude of the person will also change. The experiences of yoga practicing people show that they became more compassionate about the surroundings and fellow beings. The control over the thoughts will help to suppress the materialistic pressures of the life. However the ultimate spiritual benefit of yoga will be the self realization. The understanding of self will help assure the healing of the pain of the body as well as the mind.

The rejuvenation of mind and health by practicing yoga will certainly benefit you and pave your path to spiritual liberation and salvation.

3 Ideas To Build Muscle Mass

Posted by admin | Filed under Fitness news

0

Building muscle might seem as simple as going to the gym and lifting weights, but unfortunately for many, myself included, the gains do not come as easily as we would like.

This is not because we workout with any less intensity than those that do bulk up. If anything, we scrawnier folk probably workout more intensely and more often than those that have more muscle, simply because we do not see the gains and think we need to workout more. This is actually one of the main reasons for not getting any real gains, because over working the body can be just as bad as not exercising at all.

The reasons for smaller than average muscle gains is as varying as the people themselves; testosterone levels, metabolism, over working the body and not giving yourself sufficient recovery time, or it could be wrong training routines for your particular body frame etc…
But luckily there are a few important things that we can do that really make the difference between no gains and large gains, and the best part is, it does not involve any supplements or drug. Simply adjusting the way in which you workout and eat will change your reflection in the mirror very quickly.

1.    Large multi-joint compound exercises

Regardless of whether you are trying to lose body fat or are trying to gain muscle mass, you should always focus the majority of your training time on big multi-joint exercises, and treat isolation exercises as the side dish to your main meal. It is the large multi-joint exercises that should comprise the majority of your workout if you want to get lean, build muscle, get ripped and become stronger and more powerful. Think of these multi-joint exercises as the major movement patterns such as those below.

-Upper body horizontal rows (seated cable rows, 1-arm dumbbell rows, bent over barbell rows)
-Upper body horizontal press (dips, push ups, bench press)
-upper body vertical pull (chinups, pullups, lat pulldowns)
-upper body vertical press (dumbbell and overhead barbell presses, barbell or kettlebell clean & presses)
-lower body squatting (front squats, overhead squats, bodyweight squats, back squats, etc)
-lower body deadlifting (sumo deadlifts, Romanian deadlifts, regular deadlifts)
-lower body single leg (jump lunges, lunges, set-ups, etc)

This should also include abdominal and core exercises, but these are still second priority to the major upper and lower body multi-joint exercises. Your abs will get a solid workout anyway from most major multi-joint exercises.

Some of the single-joint exercises that you might often focus on to build muscle, such as tricep presses, bicep curls, calf presses, shoulder lateral raises, etc… should again be second priority to the major multi-joint routine. You can still add these to your main workout, but always remember that these should be treated as add-ons and should not be your main focus.

2.    Keep your workouts short and to the point

The goal should be high intensity workouts, 3-4 days a week, 45-60 minutes per training workout.
You probably don’t need to be told that you should exercise at a high intensity rate, that’s something you know already, and have likely been doing since day one in the gym. On the other hand maybe it should be mentioned that you should not workout any longer than 60 minutes, as training too much beyond this point can start to trigger excess catabolism, where your body starts to use its own proteins (which are found in cells), as a substitute energy source. Basically if you workout too long, your body can start to burn tissue as fuel, and that can’t be a good thing. There are supplements around that can help counter excess catabolism and protect muscle tissue, but a more efficient 45-60 minute, high intensity workout is going to give you the greatest results.

If you do tend to train longer than 60 minutes in any one session, you could try a super-set style of workout program, which will help to condense training time and considerably increase intensity. The super-set is a very simple concept… you simply do two exercises back-to-back, with no rest break in between.

You can make them any combinations you like, for example you could combine pullups with squats, or bench press with deadlifts. The choice is yours. Your super-sets could consist of a combination between upper body and lower body workouts, or two consecutive upper body workouts, or lower body workouts. To mix it up even more you could play around with varying sets and reps and heavier weights. Remember, your workout routines should be fun so mix it up until you find some combinations that you enjoy.

You will quickly find that you will experience significant muscle mass gains when you start adding super-sets to your workout program, and of course you can adjust your calorie intake to suit your goals, whether it be to lose body fat or to gain muscle. Super-sets are very effective at doing both.

3.    Eat quality whole foods

Again, we can not escape how essential nutrition is to your weight training or dieting. You should eat healthy whole foods and stay away from highly processed foods and even some of those over hyped supplements, bars and meal replacements. More often than not, a healthy, whole food diet will beat supplements hands down. Sure they have their place, but they could never be a substitute for real whole foods.

Whole foods such as meats, eggs, fruits, vegetables, seeds and nuts, and dairy, provided it is raw whole dairy, offer the best quality protein, as well as additional nutrition you get from vitamins, minerals and antioxidants. The body absorbs these best when they come from whole foods. The more greener, organic and grass fed this whole food, the better. This is much better than processed bars, meal replacements and protein powders.

I will go out on a limb here and make an assumption that many people who either find it difficult to pack on the muscle or find it hard to lose the excess stomach fat, will have a heap of over hyped supplements in their cupboards. Yes? Sure some of these supplements are really helpful and do make a difference, but the majority are not.

My advice, give whole foods another try. Rather than spend the excess money on eight different supplements a week, start seeking out the whole, organic and grass fed food. You will notice a difference.

So in conclusion, change what exercises you focus on in the gym and spend the majority of your training time on large multi-joint exercises, which will get you lean and ripped.
Cut back the time you are in the gym, and lift the intensity by adding different super-set combinations to your training program. This will fire up the muscle development in no time flat.
Last but not least, cut back on all the over hyped protein bars, supplements, and meal replacements. Instead seek out raw, whole, grass fed food and start giving your body what it really wants.

Newsflash: Your Golf Clubs Need To Fit You!

Posted by admin | Filed under Fitness news

With the prices of golf equipment where they are today, it only makes good sense to be custom club fit for your new golf clubs. Yes, it may cost you another fee to be club fit for a set of golf clubs but, trust me; this will be less than 10% of the price of your new investment. If this still seems like to much money, find a local PGA professional who will include the cost with a purchase of a Driver or a set of golf irons. To use the phrase from Nike, Just Do It. Let me tell you why owning a set of golf clubs that is built to your spefications is so important.

All golfers are not created equal. Every single golfer is a little bit different in size, body frame as well as the shape of their golf swing. A proper custom club fit will result in a set of clubs that are specifically suited to your height, strength, club head speed and individual swing characteristics.

What most people do not realize is that off-the-shelf golf clubs are one-size-fits-few. Approximately 10% of all club fittings end up with standard specs. Actually golf manufacturers have changed their standards multiple times over the last ten years. Since custom fitting has gained popularity with the average golfer, manufacturing companies have made lie angles more upright and lofts stronger. This obviously is in an attempt to help the average to higher handicap golfer.

A club fit can be performed by a PGA Professional. How do you go about finding the right PGA Professional to fit you? Ask a lot of questions. Just like you are trying to find a doctor or a dentist, ask your friends, co-workers and call golf shops. The proper questions to ask are as follows:

- Is the professional certified by a major manufacturer to fit their clubs?

- Does the PGA Professional have a fitting cart or multiple fitting carts with what you are looking for (Mens, Ladies, steel, graphite, right-handed, left-handed clubs) available?

- How experienced is the PGA Professional?

- Will I be fit outdoors to see the entire ball flight?

Contrary to the belief of many, this does not have to be a time-consuming or expensive endeavor. A very basic clubfitting might take as little as 15 minutes, with the average being 30-45 minutes.

As for price, some clubs will give you a golf club fitting free of charge as long as you agree to purchase your new set from them. Most charge a modest fee, perhaps $35 to $50 being typical.

Expect to hit many variations of the same type club. For instance, a well-equipped fitting center might have dozens (in some cases, hundreds) of a particular club, usually a 6-iron for men and a 7-iron for women. Each of the 6-irons will be different from the next in some way.

The idea is to find the best combination of shaft (length, flex and kickpoint), loft (standard, strong or flat), lie (strong or flat), grip and swingweight, among other factors.

By watching the ball flight produced by each variation of a club, and checking chalk marks left on adhesive strips attached to the clubface and sole, a clubfitter can quickly narrow the search and lead the student to the best fit.

The club fit procedure can be done for every club in the bag, including putters, but iron fittings are most common, with driver fittings following closely behind.

Of course, a proper club fit only works if you follow up by purchasing a set of clubs custom made to those specifications. Two things to keep in mind: If you want a set of, for example, Titleist clubs, the ones you order after a proper clubfitting will cost approximately the same as the same set bought off the shelf; and a golfer is under no obligation to purchase a set from the pro doing the measurements.

So there’s little reason for anyone in the market for new clubs to avoid a proper club fit.

Four Important Elements Of A Good Rounded Fitness Training Routine Part I

Posted by admin | Filed under Fitness news

0

A good rounded fitness training routine includes four elements which are:

• Aerobic fitness
• Muscular fitness
• Flexibility
• Stability and balance

In part I of this series I will discuss aerobic fitness.

You might be very much into the commitment of fitness and just looking to optimize your results. Or you might have just begun your journey (which is where I am now) to improved health and you want to establish a rounded fitness training routine. Regardless of which category you fit into it is important to base your exercise goals upon these four primary elements of a well rounded fitness training routine.

Aerobic fitness includes any kind of activity you do, from taking a simple walk down a lovely, scenic path to mowing grass and tending flowers in your flower garden. All aerobic activities require oxygen. Regular aerobic fitness exercise increases your body’s ability to use oxygen. How well your body uses oxygen is called your “aerobic capacity.” Your goal for good health and long life is to keep your aerobic capacity high. An aerobic capacity in high gear delivers large amounts of oxygen throughout your body efficiently through your heart, lungs and blood vessels.

In addition to keeping your major life sustaining organs working properly aerobic exercise helps you in daily activities. Suppose you suddenly need to run to your car in an unexpected rain shower just as you stepped out from one of your favorite department stores or worse yet, right out of the beauty salon. A high aerobic capacity will allow you to rise to this unexpected challenge without leaving you all out of breath. Your joints and bones will also rise to the occasion and help to transport you safely and quickly to your car.

The key to achieving aerobic capacity is to find fitness training activities that you enjoy and can do regularly. I just recently took out a membership in our local YMCA. Thus far, I am still on the treadmill at a moderate speed and duration. I noticed, however, this past Sunday, there was a jazzercise class going on. I thought how wonderful, I might try that later on as I gain more and more aerobic capacity to do so. They were really taking some high steps and they were not all the younger generation either. Many were as me, from the baby boomer generation.

In the gym I also saw one of my old male classmates from 6th grade. I was sorry to see he had let his hair turn grey! However, I suppose in a way, men do look more distinguished with grey hair.

I am keeping my grey hairs covered at the moment! This is not actually a source of pride, I feel, but just a style I feel best in at the moment. We need to continue throughout our lives to do the little things that raise our self esteem.

This is another area I continually have to work on since growing up among a traditional sect of Pentecostal people. For the most part, I have endured more scorning, condemnation and judgments from this tribe of people than any other I have ever been associated with.

I do not believe it is the Good Lord’s plan to position tribes or sects of people in this world to continually look out onto others with scorn, condemnation and judgments. I am forever finding ways to set myself apart from those types of sins and unrighteousness. I now call myself just one of God’s elect. I claim no other religious affiliation.

However, it seems this certain tribe or sect of people feel like they can put on a dress, never put the scissors to their hair, never bother with the slightest type of make-up to enhance their appearance, and then proceed to scorn, judge and or condemn, use their tongue in all kinds of unkind words of malice toward others, and then leave that person to suffer with the consequences of all that, while they go on about their merry way, with their long dresses and long hair swaying in the wind.

I find myself saying, God forgive them, for they seem to know not what they do to others with that type of behavior. I get back up off the ground or out of the corner where these people have pushed me and proceed to try and live a quiet, healthy life. Every opportunity I find, I do something good to those that do evil to me. Another scripture that comes to my mind at this moment is where it is says: “it is better for a man to live on the housetop than to live inside the house with a brawling woman.” Thus, is an example of a traditional Pentecostal woman……. At least in the tribe and sect of people I have been associated with.

At any rate, back to another important part of life is gaining a high aerobic capacity. You need not ever limit yourself to a single activity, such as running or walking. Add variety to increase your motivation to stay active. Try some simple dance classes such as the jazzercise.
